Ultra Wide Band

Ultra Wideband (UWB) radio technology is a ‘disruptive’ radio communication technology that makes use of narrow, short duration pulses (sub-nanosecond) pulses and time-domain signal processing.  Ultra-Wide Band (UWB) Systems have distinct advantages over other wireless communication technologies used to transmit & exchange data, including:

  • high data rates at low cost
  • high precision positioning
  • low power consumption & small size
  • very difficult to intercept or interfere with
  • outstanding performance when used in cluttered environments prone to multi-pathing e.g. with large amounts of metal present

Now that the long battle over the use and standardisation of Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology in Europe is over, the first consumer products are now entering the market.  One of the first commercial applications is as a wireless USB enabler, connecting notebook computers with printers, hard drives and other peripherals. Such UWB "hub and dongle" configurations enable vast numbers of existing PCs to be retrofitted with wireless connections

IPI (Europe) Ltd is partnered with HW Communications www.hwcomms.com who offer a rapid development platform for UWB radio technology, aimed at system developers and design engineers who wish to evaluate, demonstrate, develop, customise, embed and test UWB communication quickly and efficiently.

With UWB technology now set for rapid growth in industrial applications IPI (Europe) Ltd can provide advice on how and where UWB can be applied in your business.
